Technology is ever-present in today’s environment, and your home is no different. Between the flat-screen TVs, cable boxes and media players, the cords in your entertainment room may be in more of a tangled state than an organized one. The good news is that the main attraction in your media center doesn’t have to be a bundle of cables. Get your wiring under control with these five tips to hide the cords in your entertainment room.

#5 Cover with built-in wire management.

Built-in shelving gives you more flexibility so you can decide where you want your wires hidden. Extra space behind media center shelves keeps cables and power cords easily tucked away (like in the bookshelf pictured).

#4 Make use of rugs.

If cords have taken over your floor, reclaim it by covering wires with a rug. This works best with larger area rugs where cords can be bound together and run along the edges.

#3 Zip and hook.

Using zip ties can be a great way to keep your cords together. Simply gather your wires and secure them together. Make your space even neater by placing hooks from which the zip-tied cords can hang under or behind desks, tables and entertainment units.

#2 Store your cords in style.

Finding a tasteful, creative way to hide wires can be tricky, but you can’t go wrong storing them in a container that matches your room. The first step is locating a decorative picture or small storage box that coordinates with your décor. Cut holes in the back of the box and string your cords through. You can then place the box anywhere.

#1 Hide the charging station.

With so many electronic devices to keep charged these days, there are enough cords to fill a drawer. In fact, putting all the wires in one place is a great idea – especially when there’s an outlet right there! To do this, position a power strip along the back side of drawer in order to charge all your laptops, phones, tablets and other small electronic devices.

Organizing and hiding those pesky cords in your entertainment room doesn’t have to be a hassle. A few simple tricks is all it takes to turn these eyesores into a thing of the past.
