When looking for areas of your home where you can increase storage space, the laundry room may not be a top contender. This room, however, sometimes offers a treasure trove of unused space where you can stow things. These three tips will help you tap into it.

No space is too small.

You can make any nook or cranny a place to store your belongings. If all you have is a two-foot-wide patch of wall at your disposal, install a hanging shelf or two to stock cleaning supplies. In a small cove in the wall, consider adding a bar for hanging clothing so it can air dry. You’ll be amazed at how easy it is to find space when you maximize even the smallest of spots.

Use the area above the washer/dryer.

Storage units may frame the sides of your washer and dryer, but supplementing your storage capacity in the gap above is a great way to make the most of your laundry room. Whether you want to house your laundry soap or the iron, an additional shelf or cubby can make a great improvement.

Use your drawers.

When adding more storage units isn’t an option, go with what you already have. Rearranging your pre-existing drawers is a great alternative when you don’t have much extra wall space. Need some inspiration? Use a drawer to hide a folding ironing board!

The extra space in your laundry room is just waiting to be discovered. When in doubt, remember that even in the smallest laundry room, there’s always a way to maximize your space!
