While some may think of spring cleaning as a dull chore, we like to think of it as an opportunity to recharge the existing beauty of your home. We've talked about spring cleaning all month, bringing you ways to clean and refresh your closet, pantry, and entryway. As March comes to a close, we want to end our "Spring Cleaning Basics" series with a few general tips to keep in mind for every room.

1. Wash the outsides of windows on a nice day to let more light into your home.
2. Let curtains, rugs, and other fabrics in your home breathe by airing them outside in the breeze.
3. Replace batteries in carbon monoxide and smoke detectors throughout the house (they should be changed every six months).  This is also a great time to replace light bulbs in fixtures and nightlights if needed.
4. Dust and clean the fixtures and decor items that are often neglected during the year, like ceiling fans, decorative light fixtures, framed art and other wall decor.
5. Wipe down walls, including light switches, with a damp cloth.
6. Take stock of household cleaning supplies and replenish your supply now. Keep all purpose cleaner, glass cleaner, baking soda, sponges, rubber gloves, etc. stored in a basket or plastic bin so supplies are within easy reach and ready for action.
7. Put unused household items in a box for donation as you clean. Gently used clothing, books, toys, and cookware you no longer need make great donations.

Spring cleaning doesn't have to be a chore - instead use it as a time to refresh your home and bring out its true sparkle. After all, spring is a time for renewal, so why not apply that same concept to your home? Once your spring cleaning is complete, you'll feel energized and ready to take on the new season.
